I just got off Skype with Dr Cecile from her clinic in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and I wanted to share some of that conversation with you. For those that are new to our Blog we are raising money for Dr Cecile’s organization Butoke through our Pyxism travel business.
The Skype connection was poor and we had to shorten our call but we will be posting the conversation on our Blog tomorrow. Dr Cecile told me that the Butoke orphanage has grown to 42 children that are there because they had been rejected by their families. Some of these children have been branded as witches and that is the reason they were forced from their homes and villages. Approximately 20% of the children and women are malnourished and Butoke does all they can to feed these people.

Like much of DRC, Western Kasai province had been devastated by 10 years of war when Butoke was created in March 2005. About 30% of the population of the province consists of refugees from other parts of the Congo or from neighbouring countries, including, most recently, refugees from Angola.
Butoke, which means, “light,” strives to support the population in their efforts to re-establish normal lives and satisfy their most basic needs. Butoke is an ecumenical non-profit organization involving both Christians and Muslims. Its membership counts 57 civil and religious leaders, with representation of all tendencies of civil society. Its overall purpose is to contribute to integrated rural development and human development.
Team Giving Back has developed a strategy that will allow all of our Team members to benefit from our “Help a Cause” strategy. As a matter of fact the more Non Profits and Charities we help the more money we’ll earn and this can be done over and over again.

What Cause would you like to support while you’re working your way to financial independence?
